Inscope21 rejects lucrative casino deal

At the beginning of the interview, it was directly about casino streams and the high sums that the influencers are sometimes offered for this. During the conversation, Nico admitted to asking an online casino about a casino deal for streams. He is said to have been offered 400,000 euros per month. For that, Nicolas Lazaridis would only have had to play blackjack and no slot machines. Because it is now known that Nico does not like slot machines. In the interview he says:

Nevertheless, inscope21 rejected the lucrative offer because he couldn’t reconcile it with his conscience and was just curious about how much money he could earn with the casino streams. In an interview, Nico says ironically about his 400,000 euro deal:

“It was also completely clear to me: I don’t have to accept that. Why should I take a fraction of what I’m earning per day now a month?”

Inscope21’s real name is Nicolas Lazaridis and he was born on December 13, 1994 in Stuttgart. “Nico” created his first YouTube channel back in 2010. Today, the influencer has almost a million followers on Twitch and over 2.74 million subscribers on YouTube.

Influencers have a huge impact on their fans

In the interview, Tim Gabel also points out, among other things, the responsibility that influencers have towards their community. He himself wants everyone involved to benefit from a product placement. This win-win idea should not usually apply to casino streams. Specifically, Gabel says in the interview:

“The first principle I have as an influencer is win-win. That means if I try to advertise something now, then I say: It has to be good for me and it has to be good for the viewer. (…) Then that’s a good recommendation. Because I would also recommend it to my family and friends.”

In the course of the story, Gabel talks about a seemingly prevailing double standard. Many influencers change their perspectives and arguments after being offered attractive amounts by online casinos and blame the player himself. In a slightly older article, we asked ourselves how much casino streamers actually earn.

Finally, looking at the casino streams, Nico says:

It doesn’t matter whether you say: People don’t do it or whether you don’t do it. It does not matter. People watch, they have a great entertainment feeling. In the approximately 30-minute interview, the two influencers Nico and Tim Gabel primarily talk about the opportunities to earn money with the casino streams and the resulting opportunities and risks. Nico reports honestly about the casino deal he was offered and explains why he still rejected the offer. From our point of view, watching the video is definitely worthwhile. At the end of the interview, Tim Gabel appeals to all influencers not to be the “crastest role models”, but “at least not to harm anyone”.

Claim by an online casino before the regional court is successful

An unnamed online gambling operator filed a lawsuit against a casino player back in 2021. The aim of the provider was to have the court determine that the player was not entitled to compensation for losses suffered. On May 3, 2022, the eagerly awaited hearing before the regional court finally took place. The court quickly made it clear that the affected player cannot claim back his casino losses. Consequently, the lawsuit of the online casino was granted on the same day. The online gambling provider was represented by the renowned Munich law firm Hambach & Hambach.

As early as June 2021, we reported on a case in which a player had tried in vain before the AG Euskirchen to claim back casino losses suffered. In this case, too, the online gambling provider was represented by the law firm Hambach & Hambach.

Players could be sued by the gambling provider in the future

In view of the fact that the first online gambling provider has now sued a player, it must be feared that other providers will now sue their players if they make unjustified claims for reimbursement of casino losses. In this case, the players risk having to pay significant legal costs if the respective online casino is proven right.

As early as December 2021, we reported on the first appeal judgment in which the Bonn Regional Court found in the second instance that the plaintiff player was not entitled to reimbursement of the casino losses suffered. According to its own statements, the law firm Hambach & Hambach has already won 14 judgments in favor of online gambling providers. In all cases, the law firm succeeded in fending off a claim for repayment. To this day, there is still no final judgment against clients of the law firm Hambach & Hambach.

Start-ups and lawyers make millions from the losses of the players

Recently, the number of start-ups that promise players uncomplicated and risk-free reimbursement of casino losses has increased significantly. For example, it says on the website of the law firm Staudt Rechtsanwälte Munich:

“The chances of success of an online casino lawsuit are very good, more than 90% of online casino lawsuits are successful. (…) After the lawsuit was filed, the casinos are also willing to settle.”

Furthermore, for example, the CLLB lawyers from Munich and the company RightNow GmbH have taken on the matter with the promise of “immediate compensation for your casino losses”. However, as a rule, the companies do not point out the risk of being sued by the respective online gambling provider. Other risk factors are usually not addressed either.

Conclusion

More and more mobile online casinos are successfully defending themselves against player lawsuits and are achieving success in court. Accordingly, the tide seems to be turning in favor of the gaming industry. Of course, we would also like to point out at this point that there is now a considerable number of judgments in which the courts agree with the plaintiff players and have ordered the online casinos to repay casino losses suffered.

However, at least some providers have contradicted or insufficiently argued here, so that the court followed the points of view of the suing players. It is important that the gambling friends do not get the impression that a risk-free game is possible. Such a conclusion would be fatal and wrong for everyone involved.

Casino resort in Japan: Two applicants for three licenses

Just a few years ago, the euphoria among potential operators was gigantic. Many internationally successful gambling companies have expressed interest in opening a casino resort in Japan. But over time, interest has waned noticeably. There are currently only two applicants for the three licenses available in the country. Back in August 2020, we reported that the French gaming company Partouche had withdrawn from Japan.

As mentioned above, the two remaining interested parties are Casinos Austria International (CAI). The company is planning a pompous casino resort in the city of Nagasaki at a cost of approximately $3.8 billion. According to current media reports, CAI is only supposed to raise a share of 825 million US dollars itself. The remaining amount of around three billion US dollars is to be raised by investors.

The second applicant is the gaming group MGM Resorts. The company had applied for a license in the city of Osaka and previously agreed to invest a total of $15.6 billion in a potential Japanese casino resort. Previously, in January of last year, we reported that MGM Resorts in Las Vegas laid off more than 100 employees.

Why has gambling companies lost interest?

Experts estimate the market potential in Japan at around 40 billion US dollars. It is all the more surprising that many other gambling companies such as Caesars Entertainment and Las Vegas Sands Corp. distanced themselves from their plan to open a casino resort in Japan. At the beginning of the negotiations, the Japanese government tried to make an investment in the country as attractive as possible for gambling companies.

But over time, it quickly became clear that the development costs for the casino areas would be significantly higher than initially assumed. In addition, the potentially interested parties were informed that the tax and duty burden will also be significantly higher than planned. Over the years, more and more companies dropped out of the current application process, so that ultimately only Casinos Austria International (CAI) and MGM Resorts remained. Nobody has to fight for permission anymore: After all, there are currently only two applicants for the originally planned three licenses in Japan.

Conclusion

To date, it is not clear whether the two remaining contenders, MGM Resorts and Casinos Austria, will ever realize their plans for a casino resort. Although Japan has been trying to attract well-funded gaming companies to a casino resort in the country for many years, interest is now comparatively low. So one might conclude that Japan’s casino plans were doomed from the start.

“Mizkif” refuses on moral grounds

Specifically, the famous Twitch streamer is said to have been offered exactly 10 million US dollars for delivering at least 15 hours of advertising material per month. Converted, this amount corresponds to around 9.3 million euros. After some consideration, “Mizkif” rejected the multi-million dollar deal – for moral reasons, he says. According to him, if he had accepted the 10 million deal, he would have donated several million of it to charity and also supported his family financially. Already in August last year we reported on a new casino advertising ban on Twitch.

Matthew “Mizkif” Rinaudo is an American Twitch Star who was born in 1995 and currently lives in Texas (USA). Among other things, the 27-year-old is the founder and owner of the gaming organization One True King. He began his “streaming career” in 2016. “Mizkif” currently has over two million followers on Twitch.

Ultimately, however, “Mizkif” came to the conclusion that he could not accept the deal. He says that many fans would look up to streamers and YouTubers like him and that he was concerned that his own behavior would influence his community and encourage them to play. In order to prevent that, the 27-year-old preferred to reject the deal. What’s more, the Twitch star would very likely have had to relocate had he accepted the deal. “Mizkif” currently lives in the US state of Texas, where online gambling legislation is particularly strict.

However, the young man makes no secret of the fact that in the meantime he has seriously considered accepting the million dollar deal. Specifically, he commented on the subject as follows:

“I want to be very frank with you guys. Have I thought about it and considered doing it? Yes I have”.

MontanaBlack also rejected multi-million dollar deal

“Mizkif” isn’t the first Twitch star to ditch a multi-million dollar casino stream deal. As early as December last year, we reported that the German internet star MontanaBlack is said to have also rejected a casino deal worth 12 million euros. In both cases, however, the Twitch celebrities did not reveal which online casino offered the multi-million dollar deal.

Conclusion

American Twitch star “Mizkif” is said to have turned down a whopping $10 million. An unnamed online casino is said to have offered him this amount for streaming casino games several hours a week. It is impressive what high sums are offered to the internet stars so that the online gambling providers can reach a large target group.

“xQc” talks about his problematic gaming behavior in the podcast

Considering around $1.85 million in losses in one month, even the most inexperienced gambler should be aware that gambling can’t be healthy. Although the 26-year-old Internet star has more than 10.7 million followers on Twitch alone and generates an estimated 200,000 euros per month with the paid subscriptions of his community alone, his sales and losses are obviously too high.

Speaking on the podcast with Pokimane, the popular Twitch star admitted he may be addicted to gambling. He couldn’t explain his sprawling casino sessions and the high stakes any other way. Just a few weeks ago we reported on an interview between a gambling addict and a casino owner.

“xQc” is Félix Lengyel’s real name. The French-Canadian Twitch streamer was born in 1995 and currently has over 10.7 million followers on Twitch. Among his followers there are even close to 100,000 fans who have signed up for a monthly subscription that costs $5 per month. In the course of his career, “xQc” played various computer games, with his focus recently increasingly being on online gambling.

He also went on to talk to Pokimane about sponsored casino streams. Here “xQc” concluded that everyone is responsible for themselves and that it would not make sense to only ban sponsored casino streams. After all, a similarly high risk potential also emanates from tobacco and alcohol companies, for example. Shortly after the end of the podcast, “xQc” took part in another poker tournament on the Internet.

In a slightly older article from October 2021, we asked ourselves how much money the famous casino streamers make. According to this, “xQc” is estimated to have earned around $9.5 million between August 2019 and September 2021.

Conclusion

World famous Twitch streamer “xQc” is said to have lost a staggering $1.85 million while gambling online in April 2022 alone. According to his own statements, the 26-year-old is probably addicted to gambling. One can only wish the young Canadian that he gets his playing behavior under control again quickly. However, many of his more than ten million followers seem to be entertained by his online casino activities.

Autoplay ban has been in effect since July 1, 2021

The new GlüStV stipulates that an autoplay feature may no longer be offered. So far, almost all slot machines have had this convenient function so that the player does not have to trigger every spin manually. As a rule, the player could even set how many spins should be played through in auto mode (e.g. 50 or 100). In addition, depending on the slot, the auto mode could be interrupted when a certain single win or a certain game credit was reached. Basically, there were already some measures in place before the new GlüStV came into force that were intended to protect players.

But in §22a GlüStV (Virtual Slot Machine Games) it says in paragraph 4 in the finest legal German:

“A virtual slot machine game may only begin as a result of a corresponding declaration by the player, which may only be made after the previous game has ended. In particular, program sequences that allow another game to start automatically after the end of the previous game and declarations by a player to take part in several games in a row are not permitted.
Does autoplay mode compromise player protection?

The legislator obviously sees the autoplay feature as too great a danger for the players, so that this game mode was forced to be banned. In fact, the player retains more control over his gaming behavior and the total budget available if he has to actively trigger each spin himself with a click. However, the regular clicking, especially in combination with the 5-second minimum playing time that also applies, means that the fun of the game sometimes suffers considerably. Therefore, there is a justified risk that players will turn away from licensed providers due to the uncomfortable way of playing and try their luck at online casinos that are not licensed in Germany.

Conclusion

From our point of view, an autoplay feature is not a danger for the players under certain conditions. In general, it is much more important to have a functioning player protection concept in which players with problematic gaming behavior are given targeted help. Even without the autoplay function, players are probably wasting more money than they want or should. The only important thing is that the autoplay feature can be adjusted according to the needs of the individual player.

This means that, for example, after a certain number of game rounds or after a certain win amount, the game is stopped in order not to lose everything sooner or later. Unfortunately, German legislators have completely banned the autoplay function since July 1, 2021, so that gambling providers licensed in Germany at least are not allowed to offer this feature. In fact, there are still some online casinos that still provide an autoplay feature for many slot games because they believe, for example, that this requirement is not legal.

BGaming stops all marketing activities

As the company announced in February 2022, the software provider will stop all marketing activities. The focus should be on helping the needy people in Ukraine, especially the children, in the best possible way. In order to achieve this goal, the people in charge of BGaming decided, among other things, to use the funds earmarked for the International Gaming Awards to support the organization “Save the Children”. How was the rigged roulette ball supposed to work?

The goal of the criminal trio is said to have been to swindle several hundred thousand euros in different casinos. To do this, they manipulated a roulette ball in such a way that it had a vibrating motor with a battery and charging unit. The remote-controlled roulette ball has a diameter of 21 millimeters. The men are said to have intensively exchanged views about the project over a longer period of time and clearly expressed their willingness to use the ball in casinos with fraudulent intent.

What is surprising about the case, however, is that the elaborately manipulated roulette ball was probably never used. The “pensioner trio” could not earn a cent with the fraudulent scam. It remains questionable, however, why the men aged 60, 66 and 70 were caught by the police at all if no fraud had taken place at all.

Foreign authorities decrypted Messenger

The criminal group was blown up by accident: French authorities managed to decode a special messenger about two years ago, about which the “trio of pensioners” is said to have communicated. Several telecommunications surveillance followed and finally an access by the German police because it was feared that the manipulated roulette ball could be used undetected in foreign casinos.

On March 16, 2022, the district court in Weiden then sentenced a total of four people to prison terms of between one and two years. The fourth person is a 32-year-old son of the oldest suspect. All four men were convicted of “preparing a crime of commercial and gang fraud”. To the delight of the four men, all sentences were suspended.

Self-experiment with surprising result

As part of the investigation, a commissioner from “Kripo Weiden” checked the functionality of the manipulated roulette ball together with two public prosecutors, a casino manager at the Bad Wiessee casino and her security manager. The result: The remote-controlled roulette ball would have worked with a high degree of probability and the perpetrators could have chosen the next number as they wished. Despite the high security precautions in casinos, the “retiree trio” would have succeeded in winning high loot.

Conclusion

It is quite impressive that the “Retiree Trio” managed to manipulate a roulette ball in such a way that it could have been used in German casinos without attracting attention. It is only due to coincidence that the men were caught before the first crime was committed and could now be sentenced for their preparatory actions. So the “casino crooks” were about to pull off a coup à la films like “Ocean’s Eleven” in German casinos.

Young people are particularly susceptible to addiction

In the current study, the authors Sven Buth, Gerhard Meyer and Jens Kalke came to the conclusion that the proportion of gamblers with a “gambling-associated disorder” is above average, especially at a young age. Accordingly, 4.3% of 21 to 25 year olds suffer from such a disorder. With increasing age, the probability of a “gambling disorder” decreases. While the proportion of 26 to 35 year olds is only slightly lower at 4.2%, it is only 0.9% among 56 to 70 year olds.

While a total of 5.7% of all respondents basically “risky gaming behavior” can be assumed, the proportion of non-gamers or players who display unproblematic gaming behavior is still around 92%.

Overall, 2.3% of respondents aged 18 to 70 had a “gambling disorder”. As one of the authors and ISD expert, Sven Buth pointed out that this proportion was significantly higher than in previous studies. The ISD project manager Jens Kalke added that on the basis of the current investigation, the “measures for the protection of players and young people should be evaluated and improved if necessary”.

A “gambling-associated disorder” can be recognized, among other things, by the fact that those affected hide their gambling activities and continue to gamble in order to compensate for losses suffered. In addition, those affected experience withdrawal symptoms if they do not (or cannot) play for some time. In a somewhat older guide, we already tried to find an answer to the question of how gambling addiction can be recognized early and combated efficiently.

Almost 7% of those surveyed took part in risky gambling within a year

According to the study, 6.8% of respondents participated in so-called risky gambling in the period from the third quarter of 2020 to the third quarter of 2021. This includes in particular casino games, slot machines and sports betting. It is interesting that the proportion of men surveyed in this area was 10.4%, significantly higher than the corresponding proportion of women (3.2%).

Overall, around one in three respondents (29.7%) took part in a game of chance during the survey period. As part of the study, a total of 12,303 women and men were interviewed between August and October 2021. Back in October we published an article dealing with online gambling safety.

Conclusion

The current study comes to the conclusion that, in addition to gamblers with a low risk potential, there is also a “significant proportion of problem gamblers”. Young men in particular are still particularly at risk of exhibiting at least problematic gambling behavior.

For this reason, those responsible for the study once again expressly pointed out in the last sentence that “educational materials and staff training for the early detection of gambling problems in all forms of gambling (…)” should be part of this. Lawyer at the consumer advice center also suspected fraud

When the woman from Thuringia appeared at the local consumer advice center to submit her supposed win notification for examination, the responsible lawyer was relatively quickly sure: there was a suspicion of fraud. After all, it is not uncommon in scams for the criminals to use a pretext to get the victim’s account details.

What was striking about this case, however, was that although the lawyer had a bad feeling, there was no obvious evidence of fraud. Despite intensive testing, the consumer advice center was not aware of any other abnormalities, so that it was later considered that the letter was actually genuine. In order to remove even the last doubt, the lawyer from the consumer advice center finally called the television lottery to find out whether the woman had won – or whether it was fraud.

Lottery confirms winning millions

The lottery operator then confirmed the authenticity of this letter. This meant that the supposed scam victim had actually become a real millionaire. Of course, the lawyer insisted on telling the woman the good news herself. She can now think about what she wants to do with one million euros.

The German television lottery was formerly called ARD television lottery “A place in the sun”. This is a non-profit lottery founded in 1956 for the benefit of people in need. About 40% of the proceeds benefit the German aid organization for the promotion of social measures. According to Statista, in 2020 there were around 310,000 people in German-speaking countries who took part in the German television lottery every week.

Conclusion

A supposed fake win notification turns out to be real. A supposed victim of fraud has become a millionaire within a very short time. Nonetheless, anyone who receives a winning notification under these circumstances should remain skeptical. After all, it is also a scam that works well if the victim’s bank details are found out about an alleged profit and financial damage can be caused as a result.
